In my Guitar Classes, this is the material we start with. It should get you playing something that sounds OK in 10 mins or so, instant results being the thing that encourages us all. Play the Em chord very slowly, 4 times, then another 4 - then switch across one string and play the A chord the same way.The slash symbol in bar 2 just means "The same again". Then just copy the chord grids to do the other examples, all very slowly. The final chord grids show the names of the open strings, for instance open string 5 is A, open string 1 is E. Just be aware that sometimes the alphabetical name is a chord, and sometimes a single note.
